I love Caller ID and Google

So today the phone rang and it was a fax tone on the other end. Since I don't have a fax machine here, I was slightly annoyed and wondered who in the world is trying to fax me something. Five minutes later, the phone rang again -- it was the fax tone. I hung up, more annoyed. Five minutes later, again... So, from the Caller ID, I could see it was "Cornerstone Fel" and I knew the fax number. I looked up "Cornerstone 925-(rest of number)" in Google and quickly got their actual phone number, called them, and told them to stop faxing me since I have no idea who they are. The fact I could easily identify who was faxing me and get their actual contact information so quickly is amazing -- this is something that 5 years or so ago would have been a longer process to fix.

Airport Express

So I finally got the Airport Express working, AGAIN. It was working fine until I decided to WEP encrypt the wireless network, and then it stopped working. I knew that changing the network would cause it to stop working, but I didn't realize it would be such a frikkin' pain in the ass to get working again. I tried getting it to work via my PC (desktop & laptop), and couldn't figure it out. I even installed MacOS X Jaguar on my old PowerBook just to see if it would pick it up (the Airport Express setup wouldn't find it, no matter how many soft/hard resets I did on the frikkin thing). What ended up working, I *think* (and these are more notes for myself, but maybe this will help somebody):

1) Went to DHCP client tables in my NON-wireless router, and removed them all.
2) Unplugged the Airport Express (removed the power to it)
3) Plugged in the Airport Express physically to the network via the Cat5 network cable
4) Plugged the power into it
5) Did a soft-reset by pressing in the little reset button with a paperclip for 5 seconds
6) Once it reset (the lights did some weird stuff for a few seconds, indicating it was probably reset), I went to the Airport Express Admin setup (not the Assistant), and I did a re-scan, and it showed up. At this point I closed the Admin setup.
7) I started the Airport Assistant and ran that, and it picked it up, and I entered all the WEP information along with the rest of the setup info.
8) At this point, the setup was then done, but the light was still orange. I unplugged the Cat5 cable from the wall and I waited a few seconds, and it turned green. I went to iTunes and sure enough, it showed up... and WAMMY!

So, yeah, that's how I set it up. Not exactly the cut and dry setup that Apple normally has for their products. A Google search indiciates that I was not alone and may other people have had problems with the setup, which is a nice feeling in a way -- knowing that I wasn't a completely retard and was the only one with problems.

Pretty sunset...

Here's a picture from my balcony of the pretty sunset tonight. It was quite cool :)

Redecorating (well, decorating...)

My dad is now up here for a week and we have a few things to do:
1) Run a few more wires a few more different ways, since I didn't think of a few things when we ran the cords originally.
2) Install THIS in the secondary TV room downstairs -- this will be viewable from the bar we are going to put in at some point. This room will have it's own 5.1 surround system also.
3) PAINT. Lots of painting, since all the walls are ugly white right now. :)

After this is done, all we need to do is to do flooring (carpet & hardwood), and the bar, and we are pretty much done :).

Blah on VISAs

This whole VISA (to live here, not to spend money...) thing is complicated. I really wish there was a Google AdSense link that said "Click here to obtain a permanent resident green card." Wouldn't that be nice? But nooooo.... :(

Oh Apple, how you tempt me...

I want one of these... And at $150, I think it's just a matter of time... blah...

A fix for hours of misery

Funny how such a simple line of code can cause hours of misery... the fix:

private void da_RowUpdating(object sender, SqlRowUpdatingEventArgs e)
{
if(e.StatementType != StatementType.Delete) <--this line
{
//...
}
}

BLAH!!! I should know better than that... oh well. I guess we all have brain farts every once in a while...

Update: I was too lazy to fix the formatting of the lines of code for this entry, which is off... normally it's much prettier ;-)

Honesty, Part II

Me (to Alex): "Who is that you are talking to online there?"

Alex: "Some fat chick I hooked up with last year".

See... at least some people are honest ;-) HAHAHHAAHAHAHAHAHHA

What's wrong with being honest?

Since when is being honest with people (especially girls) such a bad thing? I swear, some people look at me like I'm an alien...

A ::Hypothetical:: Question :)

Anyone know of any good job openings for somebody who speaks French (and English, of course)? And who isn't a US citizen and would need a work permit? This would be in the Bay Area, of course.

Just curious ;-)

Extra "Eric will love you forever" bonus points: And does anyone know of any easy way to get a Green Card? :-)

Weird NBA Record...

This is quite a strange record...

The OC

The OC is just such a great show. The writing on it is really clever, especially the character "Seth". Frikkin' hilarious. One of these weekends we are going to do an OC Season 1 on DVD showing, since basically none of us have seen the OC until Season 1. And, of course, there still is Alias Season 3 to watch, along with billions (yes, billions) of other TV shows & movies I still need to watch. I need a time stopper, and a teleporter. I'd take the teleporter over the time stopper any day, but figured I might as well ask for both. You never know what Santa will bring. LOL.

:) :) :)

"If there’s a plane or a bus leaving dallas
I hope you’re on it
If there’s a train moving fast down the tracks
I hope you caught it

Cause I swear out there ain’t where you ought to be
So catch a ride, catch a cab
Don’t you know I miss you bad
But don’t you walk to me

Baby run, cut a path across the blue skies
Straight in a straight line
You can’t get here fast enough

Find a truck and fire it up
Lean on the gas and off the clutch
Leave dallas in the dust
I need you in a rush
So baby run

If you ain’t got a suit case
Get a box or an old brown paper sack
And pack it light or pack it heavy
Take a truck, take a chevy
Baby just come back

There’s a shortcut to the highway out of town
Why don’t you take it
Don’t let that speed limit slow you down
Go on and break it

Baby run, cut a path across the blue skies
Straight in a straight line
You can’t get here fast enough

Find a truck and fire it up
Lean on the gas and off the clutch
Leave dallas in the dust
I need you in a rush
So baby run

Baby run
Oh baby run
Baby run" - George Strait, Run (it's a song)

Ouch...

"Meanwhile, the SBC Center crowd lustily booed Bryant during introductions, before a 29-point Spur lead in the second quarter tilted the arena's attention toward the Orange Bowl, with frequent scoreboard updates and a punch line that circulated on press row: USC outscored the Lakers in the first half, 38-32." -- LA Times

"I don't remember much about the second half, and if the Sooners are lucky, neither will they. The USC band played, "Fight On," about 11,000 times, which is the approximate number of touchdown passes thrown by Heisman winner Matt Leinart. OU fans poured out of the once-packed stadium. Then again, that could have been Ashlee Simpson's fault. She sang at halftime." -- ESPN.com

:)

It always makes me happy to see friends of mine truly happy. Congrats Matt :)

Orange Bowl

Talk about a beat down so far. USC is amazingly dominant.

Me: "How many plays you think it will take for USC to score?"
Brian: "At least 10"
Me: "Ok, under 10" (playing over or under with 10 being the cutoff).

4 plays later, they score. Wow.

Beirut tourney!

I'm going to play in a Beirut tournament with my Sistah on Jan 22nd down at my "old stomping grounds" of Santa Clara. I'm excited :). Nothing like partying with the Sistah, kicking everyone's butt, and drinking a little in the process (only a little because we are going to DESTROY everyone!). I may be over-confident, but not as confident as the size of my TV (thanks Alex for that comment the other day, real nice of you hahah).

New Years

New Years was fun. I went out to the city with Alex & Matt to "Bar None" in the Marina district. Afterwards we went for pizza and then I, in my drunken state, convinced Alex to drive across the Golden Gate so we can take some pictures and figured it would be a cool way to start the New Years.

A few pictures of the New Years are here.

Overall it was quite fun :)
